バンガロールは、インド南部に位置する世界的な都市の一つである。今回、その中心部に建つ「Sheraton Hotel Bangalore」地階にあるマイクロブリュワリーレストランをデザインした。
まず考えたことは、作りたてのビールを飲んでいるような臨場感やシズル感を出すこと。そのため醸造に必要な機器はできる限り客席に置いた。中心にデザインされたカウンターは、ブリュワリータンクを囲むように設計され、レストランの象徴になっている。全体に配置された古煉瓦の柱や壁、ラフな仕上げの厚板壁、現地で調達した枕木をカットしてデザインしたパーティションなどのナチュラルなテクスチャーは、ステンレスや銅などの金属で仕上げられたインダストリーなタンクたちとの強いコントラストを作り出している。インドでの施工精度を考え、きれいなディテールを積み上げるよりも大胆なコントラストを店舗全体に作り、印象に残るような環境をデザインした。
バンガロールは比較的過ごしやすい気候のため、外で飲食を楽しむことが好まれているが、この店舗のファサード全面が営業できない広場に面している。そのため、外席のイメージを内部に引き込んで、バッファとなる“外中エリア”を作った。またファサードの壁はすべて引き戸に改修し、床はモルタル床と古レンガを使用して内部とは異なる印象を持たせた。

Bangalore is one of world-famous cities located in south India. In the center of the city there is “Sheraton Hotel Bangalore” and this time we designed a microbrewery-restaurant in a basement floor of the hotel.
First of all, we tried to create the vigorous atmosphere to let customers to enjoy drinking the freshest beer. Therefore we situated brewing apparatuses close to customer seats. Counter tables in the center are designed to surround brewery tanks and then become the symbol of the restaurant. Old brick pillars and walls placed overall, roughly finished thick walls, and partitions made of locally procured cut crossties, those materials with natural textures create a strong contrast with stainless or copper metal-finished industrial tanks. Taking construction accuracy in India into consideration, we prioritized creating the adventurous contrast across the store rather than building up good-looking details in order to make a strong impression in the store environment.
People like to have meals outside in Bangalore because of its relatively comfortable weather but the store façade faces business-prohibited open space. Therefore we brought the image of outside into inside and created an “outside-inside area” as a buffer. We also renovated all façade walls to sliding doors and used mortar and old bricks for the floor which make a different impression from the inside area.(Masafumi Sanada / M-style)
